Somethings Error to connect to payment gateway

When I try to call Charge API, I am getting this error sometimes.

Error connecting to payment gateway. Please try again later.

Why is this happened sometimes and what is the way to resolve it as well?

In sandbox we use an emulated gateway that does not have redundancies built into it. This can happen from time to time and is generally transient in nature.

Then it will not be happened on production environment?

It could, but it would be a rare/exceptional case.
