What difference between Platform API and Ecommerce Service API for orders creating?

I create orders with Platform API (atomic_orders used for now) and but also I may create order with Ecommerce Service API. Whats difference beetween this ways and what I need to choose for my needs?

p.s. for now, I create orders with line-items from existing invertory and create customers (for future I also need some delivery-related stuff and order payments)
