Unable to TipAdjust a Sale

When I attempt to send a TipAdjustment command to a Clover device, I get a response of: 'Payment is not adjustable Error adding tip. Payment with id = *** for the order *** is not a PREAUTH, it is a '.

Can you confirm if we are able to TipAdjust against an unsettled sale, or is this only available for Auth transactions?
