If an order is placed via API, is still charged same way as card not present? Or any discount for orders placed via Orders API?

For orders paid in person, the charges are usually classified into two options
a) card present - card dip/swiped/tapped by card owner

b) card not present - card used online or keyed in via online

1. What are the charges for above two options?

2. But what if the order is placed via API. How is it charged?

3. If the order is placed via API, is the amount settled to restaurant's clover account next day?

Please answer above 3 questions. Thanks.

  1. The charges for the above two options depends on the merchant and the agreement they have with their bank/reseller.
  2. If an order is placed via Ecommerce API, it is charged as a card-not-present transaction.
  3. The amount is settled at a daily closeout. However, the relationship with the bank can determine when the funds are disbursed.

Hi Richelle, Thanks for answering. Is there any API via which if an order is placed to Clover POS, the rates will be different?

REST Pay Display API payment requests will result in card-present transactions, which will have card-present rates.
