How to add a category to item using REST API while creating item

https://sandbox.dev.clover.com/v3/merchants/2JQ8D99BQBWB1/items?expand=categories%2CmodifierGroups
Here I can add a modifier with an ID, and it is working fine, but not the category. Can you please help me with that?
