Transaction Failed: Error Connecting to Payment Gateway

Hi,
Tried some transactions this morning using the 'Sale' app and received the following error:

TRANSACTION FAILED: ERROR CONNECTING TO PAYMENT GATEWAY. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER. PRINT RECEIPT?

Tried again this afternoon and received the same message. Is everything ok with the sandbox payment gateway?

I had this problem and determined it was because we were passing $0 as the total charge amount. It would return a service not available - error connecting to payment gateway. This was in the REST API, but might be across the board.
