We are testing our caller id application using the genymotion emulator and we’re finding that because of speed/emulation issues the USB doesn’t work as required and we can sometimes miss events from our hardware.

I don't think there's anything we can do to help you with genymotion USB emulation problems. Perhaps you should try using real hardware, a Nexus 7 2013 tablet or recent android phone? You should be able to use a USB OTG adapter with those devices. Or you could get our devkit device: http://cloverdevkit.com
