Historical inventory data available?

We are curious if historical inventory data is available. We found this one property from the inventory:

 ModifiedTime

Is this modifiable per day only, or does the inventory get overridden each day? We were thinking of using this field to check for historical inventory data, but it's not clear if that's possible.

We do not keep historical data for inventory. ModifiedTime simply returns the date that a change was last made.
