SKU Uniformity

We were looking into matching up the inventory sku with google api to bring in products images but noticed that the sku can be set by the merchant to be whatever they want. Is there any way to get a real sku or upc code?

I am not sure what you mean by "real" SKU. You are correct, the merchant controls their inventory and they can set the SKU to be whatever they want.

Is it the same as the UPC code?

Are you asking if SKU maps to UPC code? I suggest creating a test merchant and experimenting with the inventory controls.

I have seen that, my question though is are the upc codes something the merchant is required to enter?
