Is it possible to apply a discount to a single item when multiple items are in the order?

I am trying to find a way to apply a discount to a single item vs. an entire order.

Yes, it is possible to apply a discount to both an order or a single lineItem ( see docs). To assist you with how to accomplish this I would need to know whether you would be using the Rest API or SDK to apply the discount.
