Is it possible to load an app on the clover mini while running register on station duo main screen?

Good day,

We currently have a client in a restaurant environment that would like us to develop a custom loyalty application for use with their Clover Station Duo. We have a few questions regarding the possibility of what they would like.

First, I would like to explain the use case and flow of operations:
• A customer approaches the register to place their order. On the Clover Mini, we would like to display the loyalty app login screen for them to log into their account.
• Once logged in, the Clover Mini will display their points balance.
• When the order is complete, but before payment is tended, a pop-up appears on the Clover Station Duo primary screen, displaying "Customer has enough points for X% discount, apply?" with two buttons for "yes" and "no".
• After the discount has been applied or denied, the Clover Mini displays the normal payment total and provides card/payment functionality.

For Clarification - the loyalty API is a standalone system outside the Clover system. It will be used along with an online ordering solution that we are developing as well.

Our questions are as follows:
1. Is it possible to load the app on the Clover Mini as described above, and still retain the payment functionality when it is time for the customer to render payment?
2. Is it possible to display the popup while using the built-in register application, or will we need to develop a custom register application to facilitate this functionality?
3. Is it possible to develop this as a "private" Clover application for this individual customer, or will it need to be developed as an application available to the entire Clover App Marketplace?

Thank you

Hi,

I just wanted to add some clarifications regarding the customer facing display in a station duo. Though it looks like a mini it is not the same as it is a second display for the station duo. The following are the answers to your questions:

  1. It is possible to make an application that would run on the station duo's customer facing display
  2. You can always use Clover's built in Promos and Rewards app for your purpose. If you want to have your own custom loyalty application, a good place to start is clover docs using customer facing platform
  3. Yes you do have an option to make your app private. In that case it would not be visible on the Clover App Market

Hello, Vikramgaru!

Thank you for your answer! I appreciate your insight and apologize for the delay in a response.

I have one question about your answer:

3. Yes you do have an option to make your app private. In that case it would not be visible on the Clover App Market

Do you have documentation on how we might go about this or could you elaborate on the process? Currently we are discussing having to make an entirely public application for what we are doing and it's not a prospect we are enthusiastic about. If we could make our app for this client's POS systems private, that would be the best solution.

The closest we have been able to find on our own is documentation on semi-integration which is not what we are looking for as we are using a first-party Clover Station Duo.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, Answering your question with regards to making your app private. This is achievable by change the "App Type" option to "Private or Merchant-specific" in the "App Settings" page.

More information on this is available here.

Hope this helps.

Hello kishoresukumaran!

Thank you for the information, that resource is very helpful. There are a few questions I still have if you happen to know. Otherwise we will continue trying to find more information.

• Do private apps still require the application approval process?

• Once the android app is compiled and uploaded, how will we be able to access it via the Clover Station unit? Will it still appear in the App Market for that specific merchant, or will it be available via some other means?

Furthermore, we do not seem to see the option to set "Private or Merchant-specific" App Types in the application ( see the attached image ). Is this because we are currently developing with a sandbox developer account?
