How do you set an external ID when creating an order?

The API has an reference id but I can't change it.

Please elaborate. A few things to mention: What SDK are you using? How are you creating the order? What "external id" or "reference id" are you referring to?

Can you key off of the order's id (13 character base32 uuid) as your external id?
